TERMINOLOGY

BANK - a single row of the same size tabs It has as few as one tab or 30 or more, depending on the size of sheet.

CUT - refers to the number of tabs in a bank.

COLLATE - to assemble into sets. Examples:

Single Forward = 1,2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4,5

Single Reverse = 5,4,3,2,1,5,4,3,2,1

Double Reverse= 5,5,4,4,3,3,2,2,1,1

Reverse Collating usually refers to blank index tabs used in copying machines.

PAPER/SHEET SIZE - the industry standard is white or ivory 90 lb. index. But, you can specify other stock as well. Always state the sheet size using the "binding edge" first. This means an 11" x 8 1/2" sheet will be punched or reinforced along the 11" edge.

Finished Size = the dimensions of the sheet including the tab extension.

PRINTING - tabs, most often, are printed on both sides. Black is is the standard, but other colors can be used.

Body copy is also available (any printing on the sheet other than on the tab extension). This copy may be common to all tabs or vary with each tab.

HOLE PUNCHING - sheets can be punched with as many holes as required by your binding mechanism. You should specify the number of holes, the inset, diameter and spacing (center to center) of holes.   

BINDING REINFORCEMENT: is an option, but the use of reinforcement tape definitely strengthens the sheets.

TABS - these are the extensions to the sheet and are made primarily in 3/8" or 1/2" extensions over the sheet size. Tabs are available plain or with reinforcing mylar, printed or unprinted. Color mylar can be not only to differentiate sections by color, but to enhance the printed sheets as well.
